DPS Guide
#1
http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showth...p?t=263974

I found this gem which I found to be useful. I just want everyone to keep in mind that what he is saying is beam boats do more aoe DPS with fire at will than a cannon build. Cannons still do better single target with quad cannons able to strip away shields and destroy the enemy in as little as 2 volleys. Disruptors are currently my favorite pick as they increase the damage of your whole team. Phasers are second as they can randomly disable shields for a short time but also something less useful.

The op of that thread sounds like a bunch of bull to me. Some of his points are useful, but as a few of the other posters pointed out he focuses too much on dps. An escort should do the most damage yes, but if the escort is out half the stf then it isn't useful. Imo survivability is just as if not more important than dps.

on another note, a science ship and captain can indeed do high damage, but they are better suited and should focus on healing themselves and teammates as well as debuffing the enemy.

cruisers and eng officers can achieve a good balance of team support and dps, and do it well, but for the good of the team, support should again be just as if not more important to dps.

in a pug situation, I can see the reason for an emphasis on dps, but in a fleet team, it has to be each person does their part to their overall team instead of lone wolfing it.

all of this is of course my opinion but is drawn from much more experience than that threads op has.

good building blocks but by no means an end all be all solution.

In no way do I agree with everything he says either. Five tacs flying cannon escort retrofits are gonna get wiped out very fast. What he says however can help you get the most damage out of your beam cruiser. I still keep my torpedo though and use spread and high yield. The proc from the dyson torpedo combined with high yield does massive damage and it seems to bypass shields.

That is good info nova. I'll have to look in to the Dyson gear. Honestly don't know much about it yet.

what he said about tracking dps to tweak loadouts is pretty good info. Haven't had time to check it out myself yet, I am kinda curious as to how my build stacks up.

I'm Going To check This Post Out Tonight My Build Uses tetryon Because My goal isto focus on tearing up shields which seems to work well. meanwhile I have 13 skills setup for healing you and me.

sadly though, my overall dps is sad, and I can only suggest that tetryon doesnt hurt ships hull.

Tetryon as far as I can tell is really only good got someone using atrox as a support vessel/shield stripper so their party can rape their hull.

Truth, tet beams suck against bare hull.
