Useful Keybinds
#1
Here are a few keybinds that I use:

Button4 "+power_exec Distribute_Shields"
Space "GenSendMessage HUD_Root FireAll$$+TrayExecByTray 6 0$$+TrayExecByTray 6 1$$+TrayExecByTray 6 2$$+TrayExecByTray 6 3$$+TrayExecByTray 6 4$$+TrayExecByTray 6 5$$+TrayExecByTray 6 6$$+TrayExecByTray 6 7$$+TrayExecByTray 6 8$$+TrayExecByTray 6 9$$+Power_Exec Distribute_Shields$$+TrayExecByTray 6 9$$+TrayExecByTray 6 8$$+TrayExecByTray 6 7$$+TrayExecByTray 6 6$$+TrayExecByTray 6 5$$+TrayExecByTray 6 4$$+TrayExecByTray 6 3$$+TrayExecByTray 6 2$$+TrayExecByTray 6 1$$+TrayExecByTray 6 0$$+power_exec Distribute_Shields"
T "team Target: >> $target <<"

I save the above in a notepad with the file name of spacebar.txt and place in C:\Program Files\Perfect World Entertainment\Star Trek Online_en\Star Trek Online\Live folder

to make it work go to system space and put /bind_load_file spacebar.txt in your chat line and hit enter.

Ok What does the above do? It does 3 things.
1. when I hit my mouse button 4 it redistributes my shields
2. when I hit the spacebar it fires all weapons, activates any ability I put in action bar 7 and redistributes my shields.
3. When I hit the T key it will put in team chat to target whatever my current target is

Special notes: If you have more that 1 ability in 7 tray you need to hit spacebar each time to activate each one.

Another one I Use I like to call Alpha strike. I place my major CD's in the 3 tray and when I multi tap the V key it activates thems

V "+TrayExecByTray 3 2 $$ +TrayExecByTray 3 3 $$ +TrayExecByTray 3 4 $$ +TrayExecByTray 3 5 $$ +TrayExecByTray 3 6 $$ +TrayExecByTray 3 7"

Save that to alpha.txt and place in C:\Program Files\Perfect World Entertainment\Star Trek Online_en\Star Trek Online\Live folder

type /bind_load_file alpha.txt in chat while in system space

I didn't make a file for the next one I just put the following in chat while in system space:

F8 "GenSetEarlyOverrideFloat Hud_Statustargetoftarget_Space_Bufflist scale 1.5 $$ GenSetEarlyOverrideFloat Hud_Statustarget_Space_Bufflist scale 1.3 $$ GenSetEarlyOverrideFloat Hud_Statustargetfocused_Space_Bufflist scale 1.6"

This one enlarges the buff of target, target of target and focus every time I hit F8. This is very useful for pvp

If you have a specific need of a keybind let me know and will try and work it out for ya

Hey, someone else applied the mirroring of slots in the key bind to handle the execution sequence flip Smile

I suggest the following: +power_exec Distribute_Shields is executed always and not part of the execution sequence - so I would remove
+Power_Exec Distribute_Shields$$+TrayExecByTray 6 9$$
at the mirror axis.

First off, I would very strongly recommend that you do not bind distribute shields to the space bar. All abilities have a 1 sec global cooldown which means it takes 1 sec to activate and during that second, you can not activate any other abilities. Distrubute shields only has a 2 second cooldown, which means every couple of seconds it's going to go off.

RyanSTO put out a video explaining why this is not a good idea and also why massive keybinds like those in the Hilbert guide are generally not a good idea.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHgxJ6fb3Qw

Also spamming abilities using the space bar can throw off the timing of your abilities which will lower your overall DPS. For example on a beam build, you'd want to activate your attack pattern and then immediately activate FAW so that FAW takes advantage of the attack pattern, when you bind a bunch of stuff to the space bar you can't reliably control when they will go off. Timing abilites is very important to improving your overall damage out put.

If you look at this video, and scroll about half way though (around 22:30 seconds into video) Ryan has a very good explanation of timing using a spread sheet. You can't optimize your timing if you bind your abilities to the spacebar.

I have to admit my own guilt... I use the spacebar as a bind to also toggle the shield redistribute, and I can say first hand that x48rph is 100% correct.

So far I have been too lazy to fix it, but it is true... there are drawbacks to the STO method of keybinds

I disagree on the shield distribution issue.

Weapon firing and Shield redistribution are added as commands, not as tray powers. That IMO makes the difference.

I do not think that it's since I do not spam <SPACE> but the T letter (on a big button below thumb on my Logitec G13 game pad).

What I did was circling at low impulse the Argala system, staring at the shield display while spamming. I observed permanent flickering and redistribution, matching key strokes.

My apologies go to the Kazons test subjects that got harmed though I didn't make a movie.

I mash spacebar, so it is constantly triggering shield redistribute, the keybind itself is a "round robin" so each time you are on shield redistrubute, it misses "something else"
So it sounds like you fix that issue by not including it on your spacebar, but an alternate key. That solves the issue Smile

I rebuilt my "to spam" line - shield redistribution now IS the mirror axis: it does not block any available action, triggered only when all actions are on CD. I tested with a sequence of 12 actions, all so shiny Big Grin

Happy with my cruisers and science ships, I found it almost impossible to really control to speed of my escort ships with E and Q. My ships flew too fast Dizzy or too slow  but never :thumb: smoothy...

This evening I retuned the (for me) over-responsive drive of my Manticore by rebinding e & q.

I went to space and typed these commands into the chat window:

/bind e "throttle_adjust 0.1"

/bind q "throttle_adjust -0.1"

This changed throttle up/down from default 25% to 10% Smile

I also repurposed PageUp and PageDown (zoom in/out - I zoom with mouse wheel, never use these) to full throttle and full stop:

/bind PageUp "throttle_adjust 1.0"

/bind PageDown "throttle_adjust -1.0"

and set my gamepad to have these left of Q and right of E.

As reference I found this page at the "Federation Emergency Services" website very useful.

Overly eager to do these bindings, I first bound w (nose down) to throttle down. Which is not nice if you notice on patrol in system space. I repaired using the options menu, double clicked on the unbound ability, and hit the w key.
