Shipbuilders help me build my ship
#1
So avaliable resources for ship are: 5000 zen, 267k fleet credits, 171k dill, 18mil EC. You get to pick any ship from zen store that u thiks fits  the best to the thing I want from ship and that is dps. You can count in every t5 rep gear accept Terran. I play FED tacticall captain, so I  hope  that you can work with that ammount of resources to build a decent ship .

To build a ship you must first start with the skills your going to be presenting to said build. One build may work with someone else, but if your Captain. Does not have the needed skill points that the build is focused on. Then that build is not the correct build for you.

I would suggest checking on the build you want (ie: tanking) Then ask around what your character needs to add to such a task. Is it other DOFF's is it BOFF's, what exactly? So that when you have that in place then you can go and look at presenting us with that first. THEN! Maybe we can work around them and come up with a build for you.

But to be honest, the best advice I can ever given someone. Is 'test' and 'try', and ask what works for this person or that. Then google it, and come back with a full grip on where you want to go.

I hope that helps you out here. Thanks for the post! If folks have other suggestions then by all means great! But remember the cardinal rule : What works for one person, may not work for you.

Good thought process, I was in the same boat a while ago. A few good friends told me : GET THE PATHFINDER!... *chuckles* Due to the fact Greeneyed Furse on STO is a Science Officer.

That's when it went into test and trials. I have two pathfinders both with Science Officers, and both have very simular layouts. The character's thou for captains are MASSIVELY different even the way I fight with them is. So it lead me to adjusting the equip on my pathfinder.

Three good people to ask about what is worth getting and what is not. : Ed, Farns, Sov.

All three of them will be a great asset to you! Farns and Sov, had amazing layouts starting with skill points and then going with thier equip. MASSIVELY different thou.

So it leads back to the original question of : what profession is your pilot and tell us a bit about you! Wink

My question on the ship is: what is your style?

Do you prefer action in dog fights and lots of action, buzzing around big foes and hunting down smaller ones?

Do you like to feel tough and just beat em down as they come, laughing at their measly effords to bother you, move occasionally when all nearby foes are down?

Somewhere between, tough and agile to go in time everywhere where trouble looks interesting and survive unfriendly attention if you arrive first?

These styles are different kind of fun, and all can do enough damage to give you pride.

Are you the Guy of Contineous Destruction? Or do you want a bag of tricks and get the the Ace off the sleeve when it's needed most, and "Ooops, forgot that I got THIS Brutastic Pest Extincter?" is unfamiliar to you?

You may have seen me mention it more than once, but check out http://bit.ly/STOShips .... make a copy for yourself like the instructions mention.

Now you have a sheet to play with. Go to SHIP DATA tab and turn on "Filtering", now, since you said you wanted a Zen or Fleet Ship, and you are very limited on EC, I recommend you Filter the "Tier" tab and turn off Tier 1-5 (leaving 5-U through 6 & Fleets). Now you said federation, are you romulan? if so, you are limited a bit, if not or whatever, choose the "Faction" turn off "ROM" & "KDF" Leaving you with FED & NON.
Now on the "COSTS" filter out any of the "LB" "ANNIV" "DAY" "CERTAIN" & "EVENT" - this leaves you LOBI, ZEN, FC+FSM. You may not have x Lobi, but with 5000z you can buy keys, open lock boxes, and get lobi while doing it, and possibly a LB ship, but these are possibilities (you can buy 50 lockbox keys, and at ~8 or so lobi per lockbox as a possible average, its maybe 400lob; sometimes you get more or less)

Once you've done this, it gives you a wide variety of ships to look at. 137 to be exact Smile

So you are asking us to tell you out of essentially 137 ships which is best for you. That's a tall order, but we want to help. After you do the above, take a look at some of the data there, like front weapons & rear weapons, hangar pets, console slots, notice how MOST of the tactical ships that have MANY tactical console slots have their BOFF slot for Commander as an Engineer? Stupid isn't it? This is where you can swear at Cryptic.

You'll also notice MANY of the ships have some pretty NEAT universal consoles on them. This gets into what Ed said above; because some of the builds you can do will take advantage of these consoles. DPS builds require things like massive boosts to aux energy, and use batteries, some of these ships give a boost to power of weapons, or engines, or aux.

In the meantime, since you do have low EC and some decent Dil, but you can never have enough dil, I recommend GRINDING dil like its going out of style. Why? Cause Edarta and everyone else here is going to tell you to get a Plasmonic Leech Console, this is only ONE console, but it costs like 45mil on the exchange. You will want to get more upgrade materials to upgrade the rep-gear you'll grind. So don't be shy on collecting Dil Smile

To Ed's point, Escort players spend a lot of time "zipping around" so there is a lot of movement involved, and they use weapons that have very narrow firing arcs, so they are like a 45 calibur hand gun in the hands of a motorbike rider, they have to point and shoot, but the bike needs to be moving at full speed while doing this, so they spend a lot of time flying through the thick of it or zipping back and forth, or circling like a mosquito.

Carrier players, play in a rather slow motion and fly slow as they work in battle, generally staying at a fairly far range, and are rather tankie. I've seen many built with kinetic or cannons.

Cruisers are the style that take a beating and keep on ticking. They use beams usually. They fly sideways to take advantage of front and rear attacks.

Science ships, (and this is true for some escorts and even some cruisers), are built to do the special tricks like tykens rift, gravity well, radiation damage, etc. These builds are specialty, and usually are a DPS support build. They still need cannoneers or beamers in the party. Science builds can do MASSIVE DESTRUCTIVE DAMAGE, but thats usually in the form of debuffs, and other unique damage to the enemy.

OH, btw.... are you looking to PVE,.... or are you looking for DPS in a PVP?

Thank you for your replys, I play non romulan fed tactical character, and since I am most fammiliar with cruisers I would like it to be cruiserSmile there... first step done Big Grin so is there any t-5, fleet or t6 non romulan cruiser that is known to be better then other for PvE (not including loby or reward boxes ships). My focus for now will be PvE becouse my resources atm are limited.

Telling us cruisers will cut that list down tremendously! I think to about 40+, and in that range there are (imho), only about a dozen worth a damn.

Because some of those ships have neat universal consoles, do you have a preference on damage type, and do you want to be doing anything exotic?

Antiproton is known to be the best dps cause it procs crit, but it gets costly. Phasers are not too expensive and have some neat designs coming forward (this includes terran rep, I know you said not terran, but you will get t5terran sooner than you think) and there is already awesome phaser options from the fleet and other rep gear.

Outside of this, chroniton and bio weapons have some neat ships with bonus consoles.

There is a slew of other damage types, but you should tell us a preference, it will influence our answers. Don't forget... Do you want to do kinetic? Or pure dps of a given type? (Some dpsers have built puree kinetic)

If you follow my instructions in the previous post, you might hone in on some of these answers. All the info is in one neat spot

I think antiproton would be awesome if I could buy what I need within my budgetSmile if not I will be happy with phasers. Alsoo what is your expirience on putting one powerfull topr launcer in front to get boost in kinetic dmg?

Also if your willing to give me the spare parts I need, I have no problem building you the weapons and upgrading them for you.

The Arbiter: Zen Version for 3000 Zen, master it for the trait, get the fleet version discounted (1 fleet module for 500 Zen and FCs). DPS wise nice, quite agile, not squishy.

I was serious, I want you to do a little work here too!

Here is a link with the filters set I was recommending. There are 50 ship options, but this is a great start
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...sp=sharing

So, ships with only 2 Tactical consoles in my opinion, are scratched... I personally even scratch those with 3.....that gets us down to 26

Now, since you have said Cruiser, I personally think you are in BEAM territory. To answer you about the kinetic, you might just want to do mines on the rear. Torps are nice, but mixing damage types is hard.

On the sheet above, I have it sorted by turn rate, and (I cant speak for anyone else, but) as a Tactical captain, and looking for versatility, you want a ship with BOFF slots U (Universal) or T (Tactical) for the Commander and or Lt. Commander slots.

As a cruiser, turn rate is going to matter, beams will matter, and while front is preferred, it is not crucial. While doing all of this filtering I realized the Nihydron and the Nicor were looking very decent, then I realized, oops, lockbox....

When I fixed the filter again I now had 12 ships remaining. This is far more digestible.
Code:
<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->
[size=small][font=arial,sans,sans-serif]Odyssey Tactical Cruiser
Fleet Assault Cruiser Refit
Fleet Assault Cruiser Refit
Fleet Advanced Heavy Cruiser
Fleet Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit
Fleet Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit
Fleet Arbiter Battle Cruiser
Arbiter Battle Cruiser
Fleet Battle Cruiser
Avenger Battle Cruiser
Fleet Battle Cruiser
Fleet Eclipse Intel Cruiser[/font][/size]

Thankfully.... the ships the other members have listed, are in that list.

Sov mentioned the Odyssey, it has this console Its also the slowest turn ship and the Commander BOFF slot is Engineering *(swear at Cryptic)... in all fairness, the options you have limited yourself to, ALL have this stupid design limitation. Why? Crytpic wants you to splurge even more on Lobi or LB.

The only ship in the list above with something beyond a Engineering Commander is the Fleet Eclipse Intel, which allows an Intelligence/Engineer.

The Arbiter, Fleet Arbiter, and the Fleet Advanced Heavy Escort all use Engineering Commanders, but they at least have 2 Lt. Commander designs which are Tactical and Intel or Command (the arbiter actually has a Universal Lt. Commander)

I'm emphasising the BOFF slots because they are VERRRRRY important, and often overlooked. Now that we are down to 12 ships, it gets hard to choose. There are tradeoff for each.

The Avenger has a neat honorable mention console: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Console_-_Unive...g_Armament

SO, in closing, Im going to go with the Fleet Eclipse Intel Crusier, (buy the C-store version first, get the prize), then get the fleet one.

You now have at least 3 solid recommendations, and a small list, and a link with filters already applied to go look at.

Good luck

I made a Suggested build to start the Arbiter.
  • Front Weapons: My Favorite would be Advanced Fleet Beam Array [CtrtH][Dmg]x3 - currently I show just one: I sent you a bunch of free Beam Arrays and Dual Beam Banks. Test and see how you fare best in mixing. Buy Fleet weapons when you have got the Fleet ship and the 2nd Science console.
  • Nukara Deflector and Engine: an Energy saver Combination gives extra weapon damage
  • Iconian Warp Core: a good one.
  • Maco Resilient Shields: Energy Collector
  • Aft Weapons: Sphere of Influence mission, Omega Reputation, Crafting
Devices: maybe Catalyst out, Temporal Negotiaor in
  • Engineering Consoles: 1*Crafting, 3*Reputation
  • The Science Console: buy at Mk X, upgrade to Mk XII
  • The Vulnerability Locators: Lifetime investment.
See suggested Traits and on Duty Officers see Notes. The Replicator helps on Engineering DOff Tier 3 & 4 to get 2 of the Damage Control Engineers for a reaonable price.
Bridge Officer Skills: should be easy to get except Reverse Shield Polarity 3.

This is not a final build, this is how I would start, assuming Tier 5 Reputation everywhere.

This is how I would grow:
Upgrade the Science Console to Mk XII first. Master the Zen ship, get the Fleet Ship and master it, with a 2nd Sci Console Mk X -> Mk XII same type. Get the free front beams replaced by Advanced Fleet [CtrtH][Dmg]x3 weapons.

Long term goal should be to get everything to Mk XIV. What to do on the Space Engine Set... first find what needs to be changed, and if the next big space set gets a better reputation than the Iconian set. The current combination is just a bit of an energy helper, and does not cost Fleet Credits. 3 Delta Pieces and the right energy caring Fleet Warp Core (see spire and mine) can be better.

Also: keybindings help a lot! The Forum has some posts on this.

Also, if you have access to the TOS Constitution class (Tier 1) from the c-store, it has rare retrofit phasers (and can claim/use as many as you want) that will auto-level with you until lvl 50 at which point you can pop them in the upgrade panel and they will auto-upgrade to [Retrofit Phaser Bank Mk XII [CrtH] [Dmg]]. These are handy until you can get a hold of better, if you don't already have better.
