What would be your best piece of advice to a new STO player? Don't mess with your skill points until you know how they synergize with your build. You will pay for your mistakes in Zen.
For older players: Set a goal and stick to it-- it will make the grind less painful.

What’s your favourite career type (Engineering, Science or Tactical)? My main is an engineer, but one day I would like to try science.

What’s your favourite ship? Odyssey-class.

What’s your best and worst STO moment?
Best: Out-maneuvering the Gorn in "Hide and Seek" in my Centaur-class light cruiser, as a new player.
Worst: Realizing that there are no missions where the player resolves a moral dilemma with a dramatic Patrick Stewart speech.

So I recently joined, and thought it was a good idea to visit the Fleet forum for a more formal introduction.

And to do so properly, why not go over the questionnaire - seems to make sense.

Character Names: I joined as Zephyra (KFD tactical, Orion) and also had my Delta Recruit Gomok (FED tactical, playable Klingon) join. I have many characters, my most advanced one is my Romulan liberated Borg Sadhrena (FED ally, science). She is maxed out on reputation (all but event and iconian...). My "main" is currently Zephyra, but I tend to shift over time between all those I have in stock. My first character was T'Press - FED vulcan science carreer.

Your Current Rank: I have a number of level 50+ characters. Zephyra is 58. I only have one level 60 right now - Sadhrena the Romulan former Borg.

Time Zone: I operate from the Netherlands.

How did you get into Star Trek Online? Big fan of the franchise. Well, actually, mainly TNG and a number of episodes of DS9 and VOY. TOS is just silly, very hard to watch really. I suppose the original movies are OK. I knew when STO launched, but at the time seriously didn't have time to start playing. My gaming time went to Guild Wars (still a great game, which I sometimes revisit). Some real-life friends played STO and I think it was late 2011 when I joined. It didn't take me long to go for a Lifetime subscription. But I haven't played continuously, I have taken extensive breaks from online gaming several times.

How long have you been playing for? On and off since late 2011. Maybe once joined a fleet, but went on hiatus shortly after. Yeah, that happened.

What would be your best piece of advice to a new STO player? Don't let the UI scare you off. Take time to get used to it. Walk the tutorial - the new ones are well-written and actually provide a fun/interesting storyline. And don't rush, walk your own pace. The game may sometimes give you the idea that there is a clock running in the background, but unless you actually SEE a clock counting down, you can actually go out for groceries in the middle of whatever you were doing - the game will wait for you.

What’s your favourite career type (Engineering, Science or Tactical)? Each has it's perks, I find Tactical the most straight-forward and quick to level, Science the most interesting, Engineering the most tanky. Depends on what my "main of the day" is, really!

What’s your favourite ship? Depends on the character I'm playing. I like to play in style. I recently acquired a Xindi Heavy Escort Carrier while opening boxes for Lobi crystals. I just wanted to trade the Lobi for Lohlunat favors, because I wanted flowers for my girl! And then the ship popped out. I really love that boat right now.

What’s your best and worst STO moment? Since my gaming computer fried, I play on a laptop (with 27" monitor and external keyboard, mind) and it can't take some of the delta space maps. I hate that. I also don't like a number of typical STO game mechanics, when they make players grind and grind and grind. And I don't like the fact that building sand sculptures on Risa can't be done if you don't get extremely lucky by finding a patch before others do. How can a holiday event be designed to frustrate players??? WHAT EVER! Hence I opened boxes for Lobi to trade for favors instead. Pfff...
As for the best moment: reading appreciative comments on my Foundry missions (I have two published missions: 'Outpost Gaia' (FED) and 'Borg Blitz' (KDF) I would need to polish them up a little here and there but hey).

What are some of your other interests? Music, science, psychology, audio/visual creativity.

What’s your favourite band? My own - I don't have favorite band, I used to be in the wave/industrial rock scene, also sporting dark electro; my current band is more heavy rock/melodic wave style with a funky drummer.

I'm Tony, and I play a tac/escort pilot named Groot. Ahem..I mean "I am Groot!"

I play on PST and I'm usually on in the evenings and weekends. I'm a recent returnee to STO, played early and then left for other games. I also play ESO and SWTOR. I've been play STO for a few months now and I'm really enjoying the new pilot ships. My best piece of advice for new STO players is to pick up a T6 or T5-U ASAP! It's a game changer.

I'm not on constantly because of school and work, but I love playing with other people so if you are going to run some PvE queues hit me up. My DPS isn't great yet, but I'd welcome any advice to bring it up.

What would be your best piece of advice to a new STO player? Don't be overwhelmed by the ton of new stuff. Follow the storyline as it is presented to you.

How did you get into Star Trek Online? TNG back in 87 (was it that long ago?), caught my eye and fascinated me. I had seen TOS before, Next Generation just amped me up!

How long have you been playing for? besides a break for a year, since launch.

What would be your best piece of advice to a new STO player? I am a trial by fire kind of person, I jump in head first and figure it out as I go. For folks that like more definitive information, read, google, etc...find a good fleet and ask experienced members or to team up and run some missions so you get ideas.

What’s your favourite career type (Engineering, Science or Tactical)? Spent a lot of years on Tact, then Eng, now exploring my Sci further.

What’s your favourite ship? For a strictly tact, the Fleet Chimera, engineer, Fleet Galaxy X. The Breen Chell Grett I have used in both tact and eng as it has the versatility for both. Sci I am using the new Breen carrier and I like it thus far.

What’s your best and worst STO moment? Worst Moment: After a year break from the game I returned and my old friends and fleetmates had departed the game. Best moment: finding this fleet and good folks and good friends.

What are some of your other interests? Home improvements now, drawing, painting, reading, facilitating chaos.

What’s your favourite band? On an 80's kick currently, other than that, random, except country, I don't like country music.

How did you get into Star Trek Online? I grew up with Star Trek TNG, and have loved every series. A guild-mate of mine from Everquest, Asheron's Call, Guild Wars, EQ 2, and DC Universe told me he was going to join STO so I followed right behind. He's no longer playing, but I missed STO and wanted to play again undefined

How long have you been playing for? About 2 years, very casually, with about a 9 month break until I picked it back up last week.

What would be your best piece of advice to a new STO player? ASK FOR HELP. This game can be confusing! Everyone was a noob once and there are plenty of people out there who are willing to help. YES, there might be a jerk or two, just remember "ignore player" is but a right-click away undefined The learning curve of this game keeps most of those type out anyway undefined

What’s your favourite career type (Engineering, Science or Tactical)? So far the only type I have much experience with is tactical.

What’s your favourite ship? I'm currently running a fleet tactical escort retrofit (defiant) and it seems to work just fine. I haven't gotten a T5 Upgrade for it yet. Not really sure what my next move is gonna be.

What’s your best and worst STO moment?
BEST moment is that moment when it finally "clicked" in my head how the Bridge Officer Training system worked. I had been staring blankly at the screen for a few days. ( I didn't ask for help!!)
WORST moment was that first time I barely defeated an enemy ship and raised my hands in victory and laughter, only to die in his warp core explosion, because I didn't know about that at the time. It STILL continues to be my downfall

What are some of your other interests? I'm a high-school band director, so of course I like music. Classical, Jazz, Rock, Etc. I like camping, riding motorcycles, and I'm a Netflix addict.

Anything else you want to say? I'm a male playing a female character, because I always figured...if I'm going to be staring at a character's backside most of the time, lets let it be a female! But man, it's weird being hit on so much in mmorpgs! I suppose my name doesn't help that situation...

I've sort-of figured out how to play STO on my own, and there are going to be MANY things about my build/tactics/whatever that make NO sense at all. PLEASE don't hesitate to offer advice on what I can do to be a better player. Once again, thanks for having me!
